Following appointment as Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in 1997, after higher surgical training in London, a Harvard Fellowship in USA and a Trauma Fellowship in Austria, I have established a multi-disciplinary specialist knee surgery service in York, assessing and treating all types of knee disorder including sports injuries as well as arthritic conditions.
As well as seeing patients referred by General Practioners, physiotherapists and podiatrists I also take referrals from Consultant Orthopaedic colleagues locally and regionally seeking treatment of complex ligamentous injuries and difficult primary and revision knee replacements.
As well as day case arthroscopic ("keyhole") surgery and ligament reconstruction I have a specific interest in maximizing the functional outcome following knee replacement surgery, particularly in the younger patient. This includes reducing hospital stay as well as increasing long term functional capabilities.
My current research interests include membership of an International Evaluation team assessing the outcome of high flexion total knee replacement as well as scientific research into articular cartilage regeneration techniques.
I have a prominent role in the Orthopaedic Education of Medical students at Hull York Medical School. I am also actively involved in teaching knee surgical techniques to other surgeons, regionally, nationally and internationally.
