Mr Nicholas Carrington
I qualified from Nottingham Medical School in 1994, and subsequently undertook my Surgical Training in the Yorkshire region.
My main interests are the treatment of the arthritic knee and hip, and revision of failed hip replacements.
I refined my expertise in this field with a one year fellowship at the Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre in Exeter. This world famous unit was responsible for the development of the European market-leader Exeter Cemented Total Hip Replacement. This unit also pioneered the technique for Femoral Impaction Bone Grafting. This is an invaluable method by which absent bone about loose hip replacements can be restored during revision surgery.
I was appointed as a consultant in York in May 2006.
My busy practice includes arthroscopic (key-hole) surgery to the knee, primary total and unicompartmental (partial) knee replacement, primary hip replacement and revision hip replacement.
I am also the Clinical Lead for Trauma for the York orthopaedic department.
My emphasis is on using well-established techniques and implants, with a track record of excellent function and longevity. To this end, I incorporate modern bearing surfaces to enhance likelihood of long-term success.
In revision hip surgery, my emphasis is on restoration of lost bone and other techniques to reduce the magnitude and risk of the surgery.
I am involved with teaching at a local and National level, training consultant colleagues in specialist techniques for primary and revision hip replacement.
My research interests and publications focus on the Exeter total hip replacement, revision hip replacement and techniques for maximising early rehabilitation and function after hip and knee replacement.
