I qualified from Sheffield University Medical School in 1989 and did my basic surgical training on the Nottingham surgical rotation.
My higher specialist orthopaedic training was in the West Midlands and this was complemented by a series of Fellowships in Oxford, Canada & the USA with leading hip and knee arthroplasty surgeons.
I have also done a Fellowship with Derek McMinn and Ronan Treacy, pioneers in hip resurfacing surgery.
I was appointed as a Consultant to York Hospital in June 2003.
The majority of my practise involves treating young / active adults with congenital or degenerative hip disease, with the aim of providing pain relief as well as a return to as normal function as possible, together with maximum survivorship of implants, for my patients.
To this end, I use hip resurfacing and high functioning hip replacements with alternate bearing surfaces, together with computer assisted surgery, to optimise outcomes for my patients.
I have recently introduced hip arthroscopy, for use in patients with hip symptoms, but not requiring replacement surgery.
I also perform hip revision, knee replacement and arthroscopic surgery.
I am actively involved in teaching fellow Consultants techniques of hip surgery, both nationally and internationally.
I am involved in research to further develop this exciting technology for the benefit of patients and this includes multicentre international studies.
